Urge your U.S. Representatives and Senators to fund the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) at no less than $4.7 billion during the next fiscal year. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep consumers safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs.
Your representative will receive the following petition:
"I respectfully request that you increase funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the next fiscal year to no less than $4.7 billion for the millions of energy insecure households across the United States of America.
In our country, there are many low and fixed-income households comprised of children, elderly adults, disabled citizens, and working class adults who dread when months of extreme hot or cold weather arrive. For many of these families, seeking and receiving LIHEAP funds from their state would remove one less hardship that they experience during this time.
Like other members of Congress and advocates who have voiced their opinion on the LIHEAP funding issue, we ask you to reprioritize the budget for LIHEAP funding and ensure that the appropriated amount is no less than $4.7 billion. I hope the recent declining proposed amounts for LIHEAP funding does not become a trend, especially as more low-income and fixed-income households continue to struggle to pay their monthly bills.
I appreciate your service, as well as, your time and consideration in reading this letter."
